In this week’s installment of Thrifting the Trends, I’m bringing you 2 trends in one: Animal print & Cardigans as tops.
Animal print is big every Autumn / Winter, but 2018 has taken it to a whole new level. This year we’ve seen every kind of print, not just leopard. We have snake-print, zebra print, cheetah, and in all different colours too, not just neutrals. So whatever your taste, there’s something for everyone.
I’m not sure who started wearing cardigans as tops first, but it’s a trend that has really grown on my. I loved it when it started out as chunky cardigans, but now I’m loving the thinner cardis worn tucked in and worn as a top or sweater. I picked this one up on Depop, of course. I literally just typed in ‘leopard print cardigan’ and was lucky enough to find exactly what I was after.
I styled my cardigan really simply, with some pieces from my Capsule Wardrobe; some high-waist jeans and black slip on heels, which I picked up second hand in Oxfam for £7, new with tags, and they were orginally £55!! The funny thing was I had actually tried them on in M&S back in June when they were on sale in store, so they are quite new stock.
Another great way to encorporate the animal print trend into your wardrobe is through accessories. It so easy to mix accessories likes bags or shoes into your current wardrobe. A leopard print bag or some snak print boots are great additions, and can’t be easily found second hand through Depop, ASOS Marketplace (I found an amazing pair of knee high snake print boots here, but sadly I’m on a shopping ban) or at your local vintage or charity shops.
Check out my last Thrifting the Trends: The Seventies right here, where I’ve also shared some tips for shopping second hand.
I hope these posts inspire you to try finding the trends you’re looking for second-hand.x
